To achieve such status, an expert surveyor must meet very strict criteria. The requirements include:
- minimum age of 30,
- at least 10 years of experience in the boatbuilding field,
- a clean criminal record is absolutely necessary, ensuring the credibility and integrity of issued opinions,
- owning a registered business activity,
- knowledge of law,
- "EXPERT" certification in the European Independent Expert Association (EIEA)
Additionally, the expert operates under their own responsibility, which means they function as an independent entity in the market and are not affiliated with any institution or enterprise. Knowledge of law, both general and specialized, is a key element of the professionalism and competence of a court expert. This knowledge is essential to effectively provide opinions that may be used in judicial proceedings.
An expert surveyor is therefore an authority whose knowledge and experience are valuable to legal systems and court processes, while their independence and professionalism form the foundation for objectivity in evaluating and estimating vessels.
