PZMiNW Medical Examinations

PZMWiNW reminds that, in accordance with the current legal status and pursuant to the provisions of Article 37(1) of the Act on Sport of June 25, 2016, an athlete participating in sports competition organized by a Polish sports association is obliged to obtain a medical certificate confirming their health condition allows for safe participation in such competition.

In connection with the above, on October 14, 2021, the Presidium of the Management Board of the Polish Motorboating and Water Skiing Association decided that:

•            every athlete wishing to participate in sports competition organized by PZMWiNW must hold valid medical examinations in accordance with the provisions of the above-mentioned Act (this is a condition for the validity of a sports license);

•            periodic medical examinations must be carried out before the expiration date of the medical certificate, and medical certificates confirming no contraindications to practicing sport issued under previous regulations remain valid for the period for which they were originally issued;

•            this means that extended medical examinations based on the recommendations of the Minister of Health dated July 24, 2020 will not be recognized as valid (Article 31m(1) of the Act of March 2, 2020 on special solutions related to preventing, counteracting, and combating COVID-19, other infectious diseases, and crisis situations caused by them states that “medical certificates issued as part of initial, periodic, and control medical examinations whose validity expired after March 7, 2020 remain valid, however not longer than until 180 days after the cancellation of the state of epidemic threat or state of epidemic.” The above article does not mention certificates concerning examinations of athletes).

The interpretation of the above-mentioned regulations, as well as concern for the safety of persons participating in sports competition, clearly indicate that every athlete holding a PZMWiNW sports license whose medical certificate confirming health condition allowing safe participation in competition expired after March 7, 2020, is obliged to undergo medical examinations (in accordance with the provisions of the Act on Sport of June 25, 2016) as soon as possible. This is necessary to renew the validity of the PZMWiNW sports license.
